Readuet Terms of Service

Last updated: 11 October 2026

These terms govern your use of Readuet — the Readuet apps and the service at readuet.com and app.readuet.com. By creating an account or using Readuet you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Questions about these terms go to support@readuet.com.

What Readuet does

Readuet plays an audiobook while you read the matching ebook, aligning the two sentence by sentence, and helps you learn the words you meet. Three kinds of content pass through it, and they work differently:

Your account

You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and at least 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in details to yourself. Tell us at support@readuet.com if you believe someone else has access to it.

You can close your account at any time — in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or from Delete your account, which also lists exactly what is erased. To remove individual books or settings without closing the account, see Delete your data.

Content you upload: you must hold the rights

Readuet is a bring-your-own-file service. It gives you no content of your own beyond the public-domain catalogue, and it is not a way to obtain books or audiobooks.

By uploading a file you confirm that you own it or are otherwise permitted to use it that way — for example a book or audiobook you bought in a DRM-free format, or one that is in the public domain. Do not upload material you do not have the rights to. You keep all rights in what you upload; you grant us only the narrow permission needed to run the service for you: to store your file, process it (extract text, transcribe and align the audio, translate the words you tap), and serve the result back to you and to your own devices. We do not use your uploads to train models, and we do not show them to anyone else.

The same narrow permission covers a photograph of a page, if you use the app to find your place from one. Where your device cannot read the photo itself, and only after you agree to it, we read it on our server so we can locate the passage. We use it for nothing else, we do not store it, and we do not use it to train models.

Identical uploads are deduplicated: if the file you upload is byte-for-byte the same as one already processed, your library is attached to that existing processed copy instead of paying to process it again. This never gives you access to anything you did not upload yourself, and never gives anyone else access to yours.

Reporting infringement

We do not review uploads before they are stored, and we are not able to check the rights behind every file. If you own a copyright and believe material on Readuet infringes it, email support@readuet.com with the subject line Copyright and include:

We act on complete notices promptly: the material is removed or access to it disabled, and the account holder is told what was removed and why, so they can respond if they believe the notice was mistaken.

Repeat infringers

We terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who repeatedly upload material they do not have the rights to. Terminating an account deletes its content, as described on Delete your account.

Acceptable use

Do not: upload material you have no right to; upload malware or content that is illegal where you or we are; try to break, overload, probe, or circumvent the service's limits or security; scrape it or resell access to it; use it to distribute content to other people; or misrepresent who you are.

Subscriptions and payment

Reading the public-domain catalogue and learning words is free. Optional auto-renewing subscriptions (Solo and Duet) unlock listening, tap-to-translate on your own uploads, and sentence-synced read-along on them. Purchases made in the iOS or Android app are processed by Apple or Google: they take the payment, they renew the subscription automatically unless you turn auto-renew off before the period ends, and you manage or cancel it in your Apple Account or Google Play settings — not here. Refunds follow the store's policy. Prices vary by region and may change; a change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

Free trials convert into a paid period unless cancelled before they end, and any unused part of a trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

Service limits and availability

Readuet is offered as it is. We do not promise that alignment, transcription or translation will be accurate, that a given file will process successfully, or that the service will be uninterrupted. Some formats are deliberately unsupported (PDFs, and languages we cannot align). Processing your own books and podcast episodes costs us real money, so accounts have limits on how many can be processed at once and how much can be transcribed; if you reach one, the app tells you which and when it frees up.

Transcription limit. A Duet subscription includes up to 60 hours of transcription per calendar month (UTC), shared by your uploaded audiobooks and the podcast episodes you open, and counted by their length. Anything already in Readuet costs you nothing: catalogue books, episodes another reader opened first, and files identical to ones already processed. If an item is longer than the hours you have left, we still process it and take the difference from the next month's hours. A free trial includes 5 hours. Unused hours do not carry over. If you reach the limit, the app tells you when it resets. These limits are set so that normal reading and listening never reach them; we may adjust them, but never downward during a period you have already paid for.

We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service, we will give you reasonable notice and time to export or delete your data.

Ending it

You can stop using Readuet and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — for repeat infringement as described above, or where use is unlawful or endangers the service or other users. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.

Liability

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any consumer rights you have under mandatory law. Subject to that, Readuet is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose.

You are responsible for the files you upload and for having the rights to them, and for any claim brought against us because you did not.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above, and we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect where the change matters. Continuing to use Readuet after that means you accept the new terms.

Privacy

What we collect and why is in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
